Benrinnes Distillery was founded in 1826 by Peter MacKenzie on the slopes of Ben Rinnes near the town of Aberlour in Speyside. The original distillery was lost to flooding just a few years later and was rebuilt nearby by John Innes.
Interestingly, for over three decades, the distillery employed a distinctive partial triple-distillation process before reverting to double distillation in 2007. Known for producing a robust and weighty spirit, Benrinnes combines orchard fruit notes with a rich texture and distinctive meaty character. Traditional worm tubs help shape these qualities, contributing to the depth of the spirit.
Benrinnes is a rewarding distillery to explore through individual casks. Its robust spirit responds particularly well to extended maturation, often developing notes of dried fruit, spice and mature oak.
