Founded in 1815, Laphroaig stands on the south coast of Islay and its distinctive whiskies need little introduction. The distillery remains one of the few in Scotland to retain traditional floor maltings and a working malt kiln, which continue to supply a portion of its malted barley requirements. Here, barley is dried over smoke from locally cut Islay peat, a process closely associated with the distillery's distinctive smoky and maritime style.
There are seven copper stills, comprising three wash and four spirit stills. The high-reaching lyne arms and slow distillation help refine the spirit by removing heavier flavours and oils.
The whisky is renowned for medicinal, maritime and smoky characteristics, underpinned by fruity notes. For Rare Find, Laphroaig's distinctive style provides a compelling canvas for cask maturation. Thoughtful wood influence can provide a great foil to balance the powerful spirit.
