Dufftown Distillery is situated in the town of Dufftown in the heart of Speyside and was founded in 1895. Originally housed within what had been a meal mill, Dufftown went on to play an important role in the production of Bell's blended Scotch whisky after joining Arthur Bell & Sons in 1933.
A distinctive aspect of Dufftown's production setup is that its spirit stills exceed the size of its wash stills. The spirit is often characterised by malty and nutty notes, alongside fresh fruit and delicate spice.
Much of the distillery's production is destined for blended Scotch whisky, making independent bottlings an opportunity to experience Dufftown as a single malt. Its versatile spirit works well across a range of cask types, with bourbon casks often emphasising fruit, honey and vanilla notes, while sherry maturation can contribute additional richness, depth and spice.
