Glenlossie's whisky making history began in 1876 when the distillery was founded south of Elgin in the heart of Speyside. Much of its production has traditionally been destined for some of Scotland's well-known blends, with relatively few official single malt releases available.
A defining feature of Glenlossie is its use of purifier pipes on the spirit stills, a design that encourages reflux and contributes to the distillery's spirit character. Combined with relatively long fermentation times, this production approach helps create a style noted for its delicacy, grassiness and subtle oily texture.
The light, well balanced and floral style of new make can respond well to patient maturation in refill bourbon casks, allowing its elegant distillery character to develop with age. Rarely encountered as an official single malt, Glenlossie in independent bottlings offers an opportunity to appreciate the distillery's character in its own right.
