The release

This 17-year-old Glenlossie is the third Rare Find special edition created with Raith Rovers. Bottled to commemorate the thirtieth anniversary of the club’s 1995 UEFA Cup run, the single malt was given a 27-month finish in a 1st fill Saint-Émilion Grand Cru wine barrique. The extended finish has added depth and red-fruit character while retaining the structure of the mature Speyside spirit. It is both a whisky and a marker of club history, made for supporters who remember the occasion and those discovering it anew.

The distillery

Glenlossie

Glenlossie's whisky making history began in 1876 when the distillery was founded south of Elgin in the heart of Speyside. Much of its production has traditionally been destined for some of Scotland's well-known blends, with relatively few official single malt releases available.

A defining feature of Glenlossie is its use of purifier pipes on the spirit stills, a design that encourages reflux and contributes to the distillery's spirit character. Combined with relatively long fermentation times, this production approach helps create a style noted for its delicacy, grassiness and subtle oily texture.

The light, well balanced and floral style of new make can respond well to patient maturation in refill bourbon casks, allowing its elegant distillery character to develop with age. Rarely encountered as an official single malt, Glenlossie in independent bottlings offers an opportunity to appreciate the distillery's character in its own right.

The region

Speyside

The Speyside whisky producing region, centred on the River Spey, is home to the greatest concentration of whisky distilleries in the world. The region benefits from abundant water sources, a long-standing whisky making tradition and favourable conditions for maturation.

More than fifty distilleries operate throughout the region, producing a wide variety of single malt whiskies. While styles vary between distilleries, Speyside whiskies are often associated with approachable, fruit driven flavour profiles. The region also has a longstanding association with sherry cask maturation, which contributes to the diversity of styles found.

We seek Speyside whisky for its exceptional diversity. From delicate and floral spirits to richer, more robust styles, the region offers a broad spectrum of character that responds well to a variety of maturation approaches. Many of the region's richer spirits are particularly well suited to long term maturation, developing depth and complexity with age.
