Pulteney

Founded in 1826 in the fishing town of Wick on Scotland's far north coast, Pulteney Distillery was established by James Henderson. In its early years, limited transport infrastructure meant that supplies often arrived by sea, with whisky commonly exported from the harbour. One of the distillery's defining production features is its individual still configuration. The wash still features an unusually large boil bulb, while the spirit still incorporates a purifier pipe, both of which encourage reflux during distillation. Traditional worm tub condensers help give body and texture within the spirit. Notes of orchard fruit, vanilla and gentle spice, accompanied by a subtle maritime character has earned it the nickname "The Maritime Malt." The spirit retains its oily texture and fruitiness through extended maturation, making it suited to single cask releases and a variety of cask finishes, including fortified wine casks.
