This 17-year-old Pulteney was finished for six months in a 1st fill white port barrique. The cask introduces white fruit and sweetness while the spirit retains the saline, coastal edge associated with this Highland distillery. Pear, melon and gentle spice build around oatcake and sea-salt notes, giving the whisky both freshness and weight. Drawn from a single cask and limited to 164 bottles, it is a mature Pulteney whose short, purposeful finish adds contrast without overwhelming the maritime character beneath it.

The distillery
Pulteney
Founded in 1826 in the fishing town of Wick on Scotland's far north coast, Pulteney Distillery was established by James Henderson. In its early years, limited transport infrastructure meant that supplies often arrived by sea, with whisky commonly exported from the harbour.
One of the distillery's defining production features is its individual still configuration. The wash still features an unusually large boil bulb, while the spirit still incorporates a purifier pipe, both of which encourage reflux during distillation. Traditional worm tub condensers help give body and texture within the spirit.
Notes of orchard fruit, vanilla and gentle spice, accompanied by a subtle maritime character has earned it the nickname "The Maritime Malt." The spirit retains its oily texture and fruitiness through extended maturation, making it suited to single cask releases and a variety of cask finishes, including fortified wine casks.
The Highlands are Scotland's largest whisky producing region, covering a vast geographical area of the mainland along with many of Scotland's whisky producing islands. Distilleries are found across diverse landscapes, creating one of the most geographically varied whisky producing areas in Scotland.
Highland whiskies are known for their wide range of styles and flavour profiles. Expressions can vary from light and floral to rich, malty and coastal, reflecting both the broad geography of the region and the distinctive production methods of individual distilleries.
This versatility makes Highland whisky rewarding for independent bottling. Their broad spectrum of spirit styles responds exceptionally well to a variety of cask types, giving opportunities to explore the interplay between distillery character and cask influence.
