On the palate there are notes of liquorice and baked red apples.
Finish
A warm long finish with baking spices and blackcurrant.
The distillery
Glenallachie
Founded in 1967 close to the village of Aberlour, GlenAllachie was designed by renowned distillery architect William Delmé-Evans. Following its acquisition by Billy Walker and his partners in 2017, the distillery is recognised for its focus on cask management and its extensive inventory of maturing stock.
Long fermentation periods help encourage the development of fruity and complex flavour compounds, while the distillery's stillhouse configuration is designed to promote consistency between production runs. Combined with underlying maltiness, this creates a versatile spirit well suited to a variety of maturation styles.
The spirit responds particularly well to sherry cask maturation, a style frequently seen among both official and independent bottlings. Rare Find has previously bottled GlenAllachie from refill sherry butts, with the distillery's fruit-led character gaining additional depth and complexity through maturation while retaining its distinctive identity.
The Speyside whisky producing region, centred on the River Spey, is home to the greatest concentration of whisky distilleries in the world. The region benefits from abundant water sources, a long-standing whisky making tradition and favourable conditions for maturation.
More than fifty distilleries operate throughout the region, producing a wide variety of single malt whiskies. While styles vary between distilleries, Speyside whiskies are often associated with approachable, fruit driven flavour profiles. The region also has a longstanding association with sherry cask maturation, which contributes to the diversity of styles found.
We seek Speyside whisky for its exceptional diversity. From delicate and floral spirits to richer, more robust styles, the region offers a broad spectrum of character that responds well to a variety of maturation approaches. Many of the region's richer spirits are particularly well suited to long term maturation, developing depth and complexity with age.
