The release

This 10-year-old Glenglassaugh wasa additional matured in a 1st fill Foursquare rum cask, pairing Highland malt with the influence of Barbadian rum oak. Honey, caramel and stone fruit meet citrus, tobacco and cinnamon, while a tropical sweetness remains beneath the toasted finish. Presented alongside other two other Glenglassaugh cask maturations, this cask has offered the Glenglassugh spirit additional warmth and breadth without obscuring the distillery's underlying character.

Tasting notes

Stone fruit
Tropical

Nose

Wild honey and caramel sit alongside peaches and zesty citrus, whilst leafy greenness and underripe bananas add to the warm, sweet and inviting nose.

Palate

An expressive palate with toffee and caramel livened by lemon-drizzled apricots alongside golden tobacco and touches of cinnamon stick.

Finish

The finish delivers dusty cinnamon and toasted oak fade into vivid stone fruits with an underlying tropical sweetness.

The distillery

Glenglassaugh

The coastal Highland distillery of Glenglassaugh, founded in 1874, is situated near the town of Portsoy, Banffshire overlooking the Moray Firth. After more than two decades of silence the distillery’s production resumed in 2008 marking a new chapter in its history.

A combination of long fermentation, wooden washbacks and lantern-shaped stills helps define Glenglassaugh's spirit character. The production includes both unpeated and peated spirit. These distilling methods contribute to a medium-weight spirit with pronounced fruit, honeyed sweetness and floral notes.

Glenglassaugh is consistently rewarding to bottle. Its fruity and coastal character provides a versatile foundation for different cask influences, allowing new dimensions of this distinctive Highland malt to be revealed.
