The release

This 16-year-old Longmorn received a 10-month finish in a 1st fill toasted Spanish oak hogshead seasoned with oloroso sherry for 24 months at Bodegas Barbadillo. The cask has added stewed fruit, walnut, toffee and baking spice to the distillery’s naturally generous Speyside character. Beeswax and a trace of charry smoke provide contrast to the sweeter notes, keeping the profile composed.

The distillery

Longmorn

Longmorn distillery was founded in 1893 by whisky entrepreneur John Duff and is located south of Elgin in the Speyside whisky region. The distillery has contributed its rich and fruity spirit to a wide range of blended Scotch whiskies, with much of its production still destined for blends today.

In 1920, Masataka Taketsuru, later founder of Nikka and a pioneer of Japanese whisky, spent time working at Longmorn, highlighting the distillery's influence on the development of whisky beyond Scotland.

Eight thick-necked stills help produce a spirit with depth and structure. Notes of ripe orchard fruit and creamy sweetness are supported by a weighty mouthfeel. We value Longmorn for its enduring legacy and consistently high quality spirit. The naturally rich style provides an excellent foundation for long maturation in both bourbon and sherry casks.

The region

Speyside

The Speyside whisky producing region, centred on the River Spey, is home to the greatest concentration of whisky distilleries in the world. The region benefits from abundant water sources, a long-standing whisky making tradition and favourable conditions for maturation.

More than fifty distilleries operate throughout the region, producing a wide variety of single malt whiskies. While styles vary between distilleries, Speyside whiskies are often associated with approachable, fruit driven flavour profiles. The region also has a longstanding association with sherry cask maturation, which contributes to the diversity of styles found.

We seek Speyside whisky for its exceptional diversity. From delicate and floral spirits to richer, more robust styles, the region offers a broad spectrum of character that responds well to a variety of maturation approaches. Many of the region's richer spirits are particularly well suited to long term maturation, developing depth and complexity with age.
