Rare Find’s first Glen Ord release takes the distillery’s Highland character in a vivid new direction. This 10-year-old single malt was finished in a refill Châteauneuf-du-Pape wine barrique, bringing a red-fruit dimension to the underlying spirit without losing its structure. Chocolate cake, cherry and rose lead into cranberry, strawberry jam and stewed rhubarb, followed by a warm, fruit-led finish.

The distillery
Glen Ord
Glen Ord Distillery stands in the village of Muir of Ord, north west of Inverness in the Scottish Highlands, and was built in 1838 by local landowner Thomas MacKenzie. The large drum maltings, built alongside the distillery in 1968, make it one of only a few Scotch distilleries with its own malt supply.
The same maltings also supply malt to several of its owner Diageo’s other northern distilleries. Glen Ord is one of the largest distilleries in Diageo's portfolio. It is one of three distilleries behind the Singleton brand, alongside Dufftown and Glendullan, and the first of the three to launch under it, as well as the brand's home. A long fermentation and slow, gentle distillation give Glen Ord a light, smooth spirit with fruity and floral aromas.
We value Glen Ord for its versatility in maturation. Glen Ord is often matured in European oak, helping to develop layers of rich fruit and spice. Equally, ex-bourbon casks allow the distillery's fruity character to shine through, while wine cask finishes can introduce additional berry fruit complexity.
The Highlands are Scotland's largest whisky producing region, covering a vast geographical area of the mainland along with many of Scotland's whisky producing islands. Distilleries are found across diverse landscapes, creating one of the most geographically varied whisky producing areas in Scotland.
Highland whiskies are known for their wide range of styles and flavour profiles. Expressions can vary from light and floral to rich, malty and coastal, reflecting both the broad geography of the region and the distinctive production methods of individual distilleries.
This versatility makes Highland whisky rewarding for independent bottling. Their broad spectrum of spirit styles responds exceptionally well to a variety of cask types, giving opportunities to explore the interplay between distillery character and cask influence.
