Distilled in 1989, this 35-year-old Jura marks the first time Rare Find has presented a cask from the island distillery. Long maturation in a refill hogshead has allowed the spirit to gain depth while preserving balance and definition. Soft, composed and quietly complex, it is a mature island single malt that demonstrates what a restrained refill cask can achieve across three and a half decades.

The distillery
Jura
Jura distillery, founded in 1810 by Archibald Campbell, is located in Craighouse on the Isle of Jura and remains the island’s only whisky distillery. After a closure of more than sixty years, it was rebuilt and reopened in 1963 under the guidance of local landowners and distillery designer William Delmé-Evans.
The distillery houses sizable stills with long necks that contribute to the character of its spirit. The whisky balances fruit forward flavours with a subtle maritime influence. Rare Find seeks out Jura for its versatility in cask maturation. Its spirit responds well to a wide range of cask types. The core fruit forward character provides an excellent canvas for cask influence, revealing new and intriguing layers of flavour.
The Islands refers to Scotland's whisky producing islands outside Islay, including Arran, Jura, Mull, Orkney, Skye, Raasay and Harris. Although often referred to as a whisky region, the Islands is not a protected Scotch whisky designation. Most island distilleries fall within the Highland region, while Islay holds its own protected status.
Many island malts are associated with coastal influences, maritime character and distinctive spirit styles. However, the diversity of these whiskies has made them attractive to independent bottlers. Ranging from fruity and elegant expressions to heavily peated styles, many keep a clearly identifiable distillery character throughout maturation. This allows Rare Find to explore a wide variety of cask types and finishing techniques while preserving the individuality of the spirit.
