This 11-year-old Glenglassaugh spent its final 11 months in a 1st fill Saint-Émilion Grand Cru red wine barrique. The cask has delivered cranberry, strawberry and rhubarb to the Highland malt, with creaminess and measured spice providing balance. The finishing period is long enough to leave a clear mark, but the whisky retains the freshness and structure of the underlying spirit.

The distillery
Glenglassaugh
The coastal Highland distillery of Glenglassaugh, founded in 1874, is situated near the town of Portsoy, Banffshire overlooking the Moray Firth. After more than two decades of silence the distillery’s production resumed in 2008 marking a new chapter in its history.
A combination of long fermentation, wooden washbacks and lantern-shaped stills helps define Glenglassaugh's spirit character. The production includes both unpeated and peated spirit. These distilling methods contribute to a medium-weight spirit with pronounced fruit, honeyed sweetness and floral notes.
Glenglassaugh is consistently rewarding to bottle. Its fruity and coastal character provides a versatile foundation for different cask influences, allowing new dimensions of this distinctive Highland malt to be revealed.
The Highlands are Scotland's largest whisky producing region, covering a vast geographical area of the mainland along with many of Scotland's whisky producing islands. Distilleries are found across diverse landscapes, creating one of the most geographically varied whisky producing areas in Scotland.
Highland whiskies are known for their wide range of styles and flavour profiles. Expressions can vary from light and floral to rich, malty and coastal, reflecting both the broad geography of the region and the distinctive production methods of individual distilleries.
This versatility makes Highland whisky rewarding for independent bottling. Their broad spectrum of spirit styles responds exceptionally well to a variety of cask types, giving opportunities to explore the interplay between distillery character and cask influence.
