Old Rhosdhu is an internal name associated with a distinctive single grain spirit that was made at Loch Lomond Distillery from 100% barley. This 30-year-old release was drawn from a single refill hogshead, allowing its fruit and floral character to develop without heavy cask influence. The result reflects both the flexibility of Loch Lomond’s distilling set-up and the rarity of spirit carrying the Old Rhosdhu name.

The distillery
Loch Lomond (Old Rhosdhu)
Established at its current site in 1965, Loch Lomond Distillery has become one of Scotland's most versatile whisky producers. Its distinctive production setup allows multiple spirit styles to be created under one roof, including fruity and floral expressions such as Inchmurrin and Old Rhosdhu, alongside peated styles such as Inchmoan, Inchfad and Croftengea. This flexibility has enabled Loch Lomond to produce a remarkable range of whisky characters from a single distillery.
Old Rhosdhu was one of Loch Lomond's unpeated malt whisky styles and remained in production until 2000. Known for its fruity and floral character, it represented a lighter side of the distillery's diverse whisky making approach. With no new spirit distilled for more than two decades, surviving casks have become increasingly scarce. Mature examples provide an opportunity to explore how long-term maturation can enhance the character and individuality of a whisky style that is no longer produced.

The region
Highlands
The Highlands are Scotland's largest whisky producing region, covering a vast geographical area of the mainland along with many of Scotland's whisky producing islands. Distilleries are found across diverse landscapes, creating one of the most geographically varied whisky producing areas in Scotland.
Highland whiskies are known for their wide range of styles and flavour profiles. Expressions can vary from light and floral to rich, malty and coastal, reflecting both the broad geography of the region and the distinctive production methods of individual distilleries.
This versatility makes Highland whisky rewarding for independent bottling. Their broad spectrum of spirit styles responds exceptionally well to a variety of cask types, giving opportunities to explore the interplay between distillery character and cask influence.
