The release

A 9-year-old Dalmunach drawn from a 1st fill oloroso sherry quarter cask, this release uses the smaller cask format to build concentration and depth. Bright orchard fruit and citrus meet berries, toffee and chocolate, with ginger providing lift. The cask influence is generous, but the whisky retains the freshness expected from a comparatively young Speyside spirit. Limited to 126 bottles, it is a compact, energetic single-cask release shaped by the close interaction between spirit, sherry seasoning and oak.

The distillery

Dalmunach

Founded in 2015 by Chivas Brothers, Dalmunach Distillery lies near Carron in Speyside. Built on the site of the former Imperial Distillery, Dalmunach incorporates materials from its predecessor while drawing inspiration from aspects of its design. The distillery's architecture echoes the form of bundled barley, while its spirit stills take inspiration from those once used at Imperial Distillery. Built to produce up to 10 million litres of spirit annually, Dalmunach operates on a scale uncommon among Speyside malt distilleries.

The spirit is known for its fruit led character, with bright fruit and citrus notes amongst its defining characteristics. Although much of its production is destined for blends, Dalmunach has increasingly appeared through independent bottlings. Rare Find is drawn to the fruit driven style, which performs well across a range of cask types. Ex-bourbon maturation can bring fruit and citrus notes to the fore, while sherry and wine casks can contribute additional richness and complexity.

The region

Speyside

The Speyside whisky producing region, centred on the River Spey, is home to the greatest concentration of whisky distilleries in the world. The region benefits from abundant water sources, a long-standing whisky making tradition and favourable conditions for maturation.

More than fifty distilleries operate throughout the region, producing a wide variety of single malt whiskies. While styles vary between distilleries, Speyside whiskies are often associated with approachable, fruit driven flavour profiles. The region also has a longstanding association with sherry cask maturation, which contributes to the diversity of styles found.

We seek Speyside whisky for its exceptional diversity. From delicate and floral spirits to richer, more robust styles, the region offers a broad spectrum of character that responds well to a variety of maturation approaches. Many of the region's richer spirits are particularly well suited to long term maturation, developing depth and complexity with age.
