Tasting notes

Stone fruit
Ripe tropical fruits

Nose

Luxuriously honeyed, with honeycomb, Manuka honey and beeswax creating a rich, waxy sweetness from the outset. Mirabelle plums and peach Melba bring beautifully ripe stone fruit, while milk chocolate adds a soft, indulgent depth. White pepper provides a gentle lift, with the unmistakable earthy character of a dusty dunnage floor adding a sense of place and maturity.

Palate

Decadently syrupy and wonderfully expressive, with ripe stone fruits flowing into richer tropical fruit flavours. Golden tobacco leaf brings depth and a gentle dryness beneath the sweetness, while a sprinkle of cinnamon adds warmth. Polished oak and steeped tea gradually emerge, giving the whisky structure and balance.

Finish

Sustained and gloriously sweet, with ripe tropical fruits and thick, luscious syrup lingering across the palate. The oak and tea gently recede, leaving the fruit and honeyed richness to take centre stage. A beautifully indulgent finish to an exceptionally elegant dram.

The distillery

Macallan

The Macallan Distillery was founded in 1824 by Alexander Reid and is located at Easter Elchies near Craigellachie in Speyside. Renowned for its unusually small copper stills, Macallan produces a rich, oily new make spirit that forms the foundation of the distillery's distinctive house style.

Following its acquisition by the Edrington Group in 1999, The Macallan has seen significant investment in both the distillery and the brand, supporting its continued growth, globally. As a full-bodied spirit with a distinctive oily texture, Macallan is well suited to sherry cask maturation. Of particular interest is the ageing potential of the spirit, with extended maturation developing layers of dried fruit, spice and oak.

The Long Game

Measured in years.Defined by decades. There is no shortcut to whisky like this. Thirty-plus years of maturation is a serious commitment. The decades have left their mark but so has everything that came before: the distillery, the spirit, the cask and the choices made along the way.

The region

Speyside

The Speyside whisky producing region, centred on the River Spey, is home to the greatest concentration of whisky distilleries in the world. The region benefits from abundant water sources, a long-standing whisky making tradition and favourable conditions for maturation.

More than fifty distilleries operate throughout the region, producing a wide variety of single malt whiskies. While styles vary between distilleries, Speyside whiskies are often associated with approachable, fruit driven flavour profiles. The region also has a longstanding association with sherry cask maturation, which contributes to the diversity of styles found.

We seek Speyside whisky for its exceptional diversity. From delicate and floral spirits to richer, more robust styles, the region offers a broad spectrum of character that responds well to a variety of maturation approaches. Many of the region's richer spirits are particularly well suited to long term maturation, developing depth and complexity with age.
